The Dockit & Rockit took 2 months to complete. The first task was to build an electronic architecture to make this device user-friendly. To duplicate the necessary functions of an iPod the kiosk needed a built-in TV monitor and a set of buttons. The audio feed should mirror the settings of the customer's personal iPod and play through the main sound system of the restaurant. Production Plus, a full production facility, built all these custom systems entirely under their own roof.
Once the electronic architecture was designed, it had to be fit into an attractive box. After some tweaking, Production Plus technicians fit the entire assembly into a custom designed metal kiosk, complete with a built-in hi-resolution monitor. A unique plate finished off the control panel, with multi-colored video arcade buttons and a custom lighting and graphics scheme to aid navigation. The iPod slot was fitted with a special panel that includes blue LED lights to backlight the iPod when it was plugged into the slot. Production Plus also installed an Ethernet port so the Dockit & Rockit can accept Internet radio feeds when no iPod is in use.
Production Plus built a stunning state-of-the-art functional centerpiece for Sloppy Jo’s. Operating the Dockit & Rockit is reminiscent of old arcade games (think Asteroids, Pac Man, Donkey Kong), but mixed with current technology: the jukebox, redefined and replaced. During fabrication, the staff at Production Plus couldn't keep their hands off it. The same will doubtless apply to Sloppy Jo’s customers.
The result: a perfectly executed original design concept. Production Plus just delivered the Dockit & Rockit. Hear about how it fits into Sloppy Jo's in a future issue of our e-zine. |
